A dark, top-fermented beer. The special roasted malt gives the stout its black color and a taste of coffee and dark chocolate. Stout is traditionally the most powerful porter, a favorite of English dock workers in the 19th century. Nowadays it is defined more by colour and taste than by alcohol content.
